February 22, 2010 6-point agenda to a mercury-free Philippines presented Manila – Following movements to ban mercury globally, the PhilippineDepartment of Health on Friday said that it will ask for the banningon importation of mercury products in the country. Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral in a meeting with environmental health group, Health Care Without Harm-Southeast Asia (HCWH-SEA) identified other measures to ensure that the public will be safe from mercury. |

Waste-pickers worldwide gathered in Colombia to highlight how central they are to urban existence
Sometime in 2007, history was unmade and made. From being a global
village, the world became an urban conglomerate: for the first time
since life on earth began, more people on the planet lived in urban
settlements than in rural ones. This shift in human habitation
behaviour amplifies many microtrends. Informal sector recycling is one.
In several larger urban settlements, many of the poor are quite likely
to earn their livelihoods through waste: handling waste, waste-picking,
waste-sorting, repairing discarded items, perhaps even waste trading.

SWAPP Implements Ecosavers Program in Four Public Schools in GMA, Cavite |

The Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines (SWAPP) recently was awarded a grant by Coca-Cola Foundation to implement an ecosavers program in four public schools in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. The duration of the project is from December 2009 to December 2010. The Coca-Cola Company and its philanthropic arm, the Coca-Cola Foundation, aim to make a greater impact on the communities they serve around the world by being responsive to the citizenship priorities where they live and work. |
